Get Support

Sometimes it helps just to talk

to others who understand or to get ideas about situations or issues we may have in common. Phone support is available from our information and referral specialist Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 3 PM, call 414-988-1260, or contact us with questions.

We have three support groups, two for parents and another for adults on the spectrum. No need to register:

Morning Coffee Parent’s Support Group is for all parents including parents of adults on the spectrum. Held on the 1st Thursday of each month during the school year (see our newsletter or online calendar) at our office, 9:30 to 11:30 AM Coffee and pastries served.

Adults On The Spectrum Support Group is for adults of all ages with high-functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome. The group meets the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month at our office from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Light refreshments served.

Evening Parent’s Support Group is for all parents including parents of adults on the spectrum. Held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month during the school year (see our newsletter or online calendar) at our office at 3720 North 124th Street, Suite O, Wauwatosa, 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Disclaimer: the facilitators of our support groups are NOT professional counselors or psychotherapists. If you need professional help, see our Resource Directory listings or contact our office for information on local professionals.

Need a group closer to you? Contact our office for a list of other support groups, unaffiliated with our organization, held throughout the Southeastern Wisconsin area.

IEP Review Service

ASSEW is adding an IEP review service for families who want assistance in understanding their child’s IEP and coaching on ways to word their suggestions to the IEP team. This service will be available for $100/hour, with a 2.5 hour minimum. A typical 2.5 hour service would include a brief initial phone call, a 90 minute review of the existing IEP, and a 45 minute meeting to review recommendations. Our IEP review is a former special education teacher with 20 years of experience. Our goal is to help you be a full partner with your district on your child’s IEP team. To learn more, call Sue LeBuhn at 414-988-1265 or contact her via our email contact form.
