Showing Gratitude Through Involvement

Member Rosalie Valenti Tocco this year took on the volunteer job of Autism Ball Chairperson. We are very grateful to her for her many hours of enthusiastic and cheerful hard work to make this year’s Ball a big fundraising success, despite the current economic climate. Rosalie feels that she is simply passing on to others the assistance she has received from the ASSEW members, staff and volunteers before her. In her words:

“ASSEW has given me the gifts of community, acceptance and knowledge. I serve on the Board of Directors to show my gratitude for these gifts that have made a real difference in the quality of my son’s life and my family’s life. I am so thankful for the years of hard work of the founding mothers of our society. They fought to improve the quality of life for their children during a time when knowledge and acceptance were scarce. ASSEW first captured my heart; my mind quickly followed suit. (more…)

Lose the Training Wheels

The Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin and the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin are teaming up once again to sponsor Lose the Training Wheels programs in our area. In the summer of 2009, we will host 2 programs, June 29 through July 3 at Nicolet High School in Milwaukee County and July 6 though July 10 at Union Grove Elementary School in Racine county. Susan Stokes Make and Take workshop June 18-19

The Autism Society is proud to host a two day workshop at Greendale High school June 18-19, 2009 from 8am to 4pm featuring Susan Stokes, M.A., CCC-SLP.

The title is Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders for Effective Educational Programming: Practical Strategies for Instruction and Behavior Management. The cost is $150, or $135 for members. One graduate credit is available as an option for an additional $200. (more…)
