Every child needs good friends, or at least a safe environment in which to learn. Typically developing school peers aren’t always well-prepared to understand why our children behave and learn differently or have special accommodations that the other kids don’t have.

Misunderstandings, shunning, or bullying can be a result. However, most kids are very willing to be kind and friendly once they have a better understanding of their peers with autism spectrum disorders.

We will be presenting a free Parenting Series workshop, rescheduled from last December, featuring Chelsea Budde and Denise Schamens of Good Friend, Inc. Both presenters are parents of children on the autism spectrum. Chelsea and Denise conduct assemblies and small group workshops for kids in local area schools on accepting and understanding their peers. They have also produced a DVD titled “How Can I Be A Good Friend to Someone With Autism?” The DVD is available to members through our Lending Library.

In this session, they will give tips on how parents and educators can prevent bullying and foster friendships for their children and students with ASDs.

Register by emailing info@assew.org or calling ASSEW at 414-427-9345. All Parenting Series sessions are free and open to parents, relatives, educators and professionals. Child care is not provided.
