Traveling with Autism

This coming Saturday, February 14th, we will be hosting a workshop on traveling with a child who has autism.  The speakers are all parents, Lynn Brusnahan, Norah Louise Johnson, and me (Emily Levine).

Travel with children is often challenging, and adding into the mix children who love routine and crave predictability frequently compounds the challenges.  My mother in law, who travelled extensively with her 3 children when they were young, frequently remarks that travelling with small children is like being in a third world country.  My own experiences with my son range from the harrowing (losing him momentarily in Amsterdam airport in 1991), to embarrassing (him laughing WAY too loud in during the airplane movie), to wonderful (him telling a small crying child in the waiting area that airplanes were safe, and not to be afraid).

For us, travel has gotten easier now that he can tell time, as long as he is prepared.

I hope that some of you can join us on Saturday, ask questions, and share your own travel stories, be they harrowing or hilarious.  We will meet at 9:30 am at Nicolet High School, 6701 N Jean Nicolet RD., Glendale, in the D-wing library. If you want to attend, pre-registration is appreciated. Call us at 414 427 9345 or shoot me an email via the website.  This session is free and open to the public.
